4 Steps To Your First Money Online

A question I often receive from people that want to start making money online is "Where do I begin?" A great way to get your first website up and running quickly is to use a web script. Scripts allow you to make a great looking site in almost no time at all, and as long as you put the effort in, it really isn't that hard to start making some money.

Step 1: Step one is to research different scripts, and decide on which one you want. There are a huge variety of scripts available, ranging from baby name scripts (that will make thousands of pages of baby names), to sites sites that sell ebooks, and even sites with recipes... and many more. When considering which script to use, you should think about your skill level, your hobbies, your time, and your budget.

Step 2: Once you have bought and downloaded your web script, you should read everything you can about it. Look for readme files, help files, and FAQ (frequently asked questions). This is important, because 5 minutes reading now, may save you hours of trouble while your trying to install later! Once you've read the documentation, install the script onto your web server. This will usually involve creating a database, importing data into the database, altering a config file, and then uploading the files to the server. Don't worry... this sounds harder than it actually is! If you run into trouble contact the developer- most will be happy to help, and some may even install the script for you.

Step 3: Step three is to change the site. If you don't do this, your site may be hit by Googles "Duplicate Content" penalty- because the site is exactly the same as every other customer that has used the script!

Most well-written scripts are based on templates. If you find the template file, you should be able to make changes quite easily (as long as you know some basic HTML. If you don't try searching online for "HTML tutorial"). You will probably want to change the site name, site graphics, keyword descriptions, and more. It also pays to modify the content, and add fresh content. For example, if you have a joke script- modify some of the existing jokes, and add some of your own. If you bought an eBook store, try modifying the descriptions, and maybe even adding your own ebooks. Basically the more you change- the better off you will be.

Step 4: After you've changed the site, it's time to start getting traffic! Research this online- and you'll find a lot of gurus suggesting different ways to get traffic. Read a few, and decide on one you like, and try some of their recommended techniques. I highly recommend writing and submitting articles... It's a great way to bring qualified leads to your website, and helps to build up your link count, which will help you to rank higher in the search engines. You should also use a program like Google Analytics, to keep track of where your traffic is coming from. When you find a certain technique works for bringing in traffic- keep doing it!

Step 3 and 4 are particularly important. People that don't reach success with web scripts have generally skipped one of these steps, and just expect to upload a script, and make money. Unfortunately it's not that simple- and you will have to do some extra work to make your site successful. It will all seem worthwhile though once you make your first bit of money!

Don't clutter your page

In attempt to cram as much information possible into a 15" screen, many websites become way too busy and distracting. Remember the main 2 purposes of a website - users want to find information, you want them to find information. Therefore, you want the website to be easy to navigate, easy to find what they are looking for, and pleasing to the eye. 50 advertizements, with blinking flashing marquees, bold red text, links thrown all over the place, will not meet this goal, it will just make things confusing. Have a navigation bar somewhere that from page to page remains consistent and familiar, and hopefully in the same place for each page, have each page give the information it's intended to give, and nothing more (provide links to other pages obviously), make use of whitespace to separate paragraphs, advertisements, images, and use colors correctly: in another tip I will tell you about primary, secondary, tertiary and the use of complementary colors in websites.
