What is Blogging?
Some of the most popular Internet related terms today are the words “blog” and “blogging” - but what is blogging, and how can blogging be of benefit to me and my life?

What is Blogging?

The simplest answer to, “What is blogging?” is that it's the act of writing in and maintaining a blog. So, that creates another question: what is a blog? The word blog is actually a contraction of two words, “web log”, and is a term used to describe a particular type of website. These websites could be called virtual diaries, or online journals that are used for either personal expression or a community expression of ideas and thoughts.

Most people who are involved in blogging use their blogs for personal reasons – to talk about their day, or important events in their lives. Blogging can also be used to keep families up to date with current events, or to document the happenings in a household. Blogs can also be used in a personal way to express opinions on different subjects. Many bloggers use their blog as a place to explore their thoughts on diverse subjects from shopping to politics, and see it as a way to get their viewpoint across.

Other blogs are written by businesses or other institutions. In these instances, the blogs are used more as a way to keep their customers or followers in the know about key issues and events in their companies. Large companies, such as Microsoft and Sony, may have several different blogs flowing from within – some are written by employees, others by owners or outside observers. These blogs can be a good source of information about what is going on in the day to day life of a company.

A final way that blogging can be used is to allow a community of people, interested in the same topic, to post “entries” about that topic. Whether it is a blog about a specific hobby or even a specific type of employment, these types of blogs and this blogging style allows readers to see the different viewpoints and conversation from several individuals instead of just one. These blogs tend to be more focused on news or important events, but can also be personal experiences that add to the general feel of the blog.

So, what is blogging? Blogging is definitely one of the biggest trends online today – a way to both keep a journal for yourself and to showcase your thoughts to others. A blog is almost like a diary that's meant to be read – and the act of blogging can be both cathartic to the writer and interesting to the reader.

Finding The Right Home Business At The Right Time…My Journey….

Searching for the perfect home-business opportunity is like searching for a needle in a haystack, these days……how on earth do you ‘find’ an opportunity that is not only legitimate, but also best suited to your needs, or interests? Especially if you’re not at all sure of what you want, and are more focused on ‘I just need to make some money’…..

This had been a dilemma for me for several years, searching endlessly online, clicking a million ads, finding something that looked promising, maybe getting totally excited for about 10 minutes, reading about the opportunity, and then backing away, hedging, hesitating, and saying to myself…’well, there’s probably something better, I’ll keep looking’, ‘well, it might be a scam’……All the while I was doing this, over & over, I never seriously considered the possibility that I wasn’t actually READY to take on a home business yet. Obviously, somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew it meant commitment, work, and learning something new, in other words, applying myself, not just sit back & watch the money roll in, like so many opportunities will pitch you. That no matter what was promised, the other shoe  would ‘drop’ as soon as I signed up, and I’d find out ALL the stuff they DIDN”T tell me about…and then I’d have to either quit, or rise to the occasion and EXERT some effort I’d feel I was misled into believing I wouldn’t HAVE to exert.  PHEW!! Anybody know what I’m talking about? But, what can I say, this was my mentality, I had been just as conditioned as most people into wanting “Instant Results”, “Free”, etc. (I didn’t want to be a believer in ‘No Pain, No Gain’). Thankfully, a smidgeon of reality finally kicked in to my brain. Now I realize, it’s a matter of how MUCH pain (a lot less if you find the RIGHT opportunity).

Well, eventually, as time went on, and my financial situation became increasingly tight, and unpredictable, my need for finding a home business also became more urgent, to the point where I really got serious, and began to actually meditate, and ask for guidance to connect me with the perfect business. I started looking at ads differently, with a more discerning and emotionally detached eye, asking for my intuition to kick in and lead me to the right place. This may seem funny to some people, and perfectly sensible to others, but bear with me……it actually worked.

One day I was surfing the net, as usual, and I opened an ad, and something about it struck me in a certain way, it piqued my interest, I felt the person speaking in the  presentation was sincere and I believed him. My instincts were kind of jumping up & down at this point. Without hesitation, I proceeded on to the next step, etc, then, I waited a few days to feel it out, & make sure this was ‘it’. I didn’t want to ‘jump’ too fast, even though I had this feeling. I gave myself a whole week to ‘sleep on it’, to be certain, and at the end of that period, I felt it was the right decision. Congratulations, I said to myself, you have yourself a business…..you’re a tire-kicker no more! I felt ecstatic.

Now to fast forward a bit, after getting started, I quickly realized, OH yes, there is more to do, and to learn, than I was initially ‘sold’ on….I suspect this is true with most internet/work-at-home opportunities. I realized there is probably no way to totally convey to someone, who is new to business and/or internet marketing, the learning curve they will have to go through. Even if you don’t have to do any selling, even though there may be an automated-type system in place, even if you can buy leads, and other forms of advertising, you still must learn how to actually market your products, through your own efforts, by trial & error. The question then becomes, if you’ve chosen the right business, with a great product, do you have an excellent support system within your company, that will help you every step of the way? Who will totally be there for you when you feel utterly lost, and overwhelmed? Or discouraged because it’s not going as fast as you hoped? For me, the answer happily is ‘yes’….and that is what’s making all the difference in the world. I remind myself each day that I made the right choice, and it’s now up to me to use this tremendous training & support that is constantly being extended.  Everyone’s there to help...and in the ‘real’ world, (not some fantasy, get-rich-quick-without-any-effort world), what is more valuable than that?

Install a "Signature" in your e-mail program.
Most e-mail programs allow you to create a "signature" that automatically appears at the end of each message you send. Use this signature to reinforce your “elevator pitch” – provide your company name, address, phone number, URL, e-mail address, and a concise description of your business offering. This will be a great summary of your value proposition for people to whom you send direct marketing e-mails, it will reinforce your value for visitors who have opted to receive e-mails from you, and it can support viral marketing efforts – providing your information to third parties to whom your target audience might forward the e-mails. Using tracking and web metrics tools throughout this process is incredibly important. All too often a new website will try a myriad of techniques to increase traffic without the web metrics analysis to truly gauge which campaigns are successful.
